Former Indian hitter VVS Laxman welcomed off-spinner Ravi Khan Deran Ashwin, who showed an exemplary performance against Australia in the recently finalized Boxing Day test. Tamil Nadu Bowler broke up the Australian blow by scalping three wickets in one inning that included Steve Smith’s firing.
Ashwin helped India tie the opposing team to 200 by drawing two more wickets in the second inning. The off spinner was praised for knocking down Steve Smith cheaply in the first innings of both matches.

Impressed by his hero, Laxman said in his latest column for the Times of India that this is the best version of Ravi Ashwin he has witnessed abroad.
“Ravichandran Ashwin now appears to have Smith’s scale and backed up his performance in Adelaide with another great off-spin display in Melbourne. It’s the best I’ve seen an Ashwin ball abroad, and that’s something he’s talking about given the scaled peaks,” wrote Laxman.
In addition to Ashwin, Laxman also highlighted the efforts of youngsters Shumban Gill and Mohammed Siraj, who made their test debuts at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The commentator who became a cricketer wrote that despite missing players such as Virat Kohli, Shami and Ishant Sharma, the Indian team did not look fragile.
“I was thrilled with the approach, as well as the performance of the debuts Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj. It also repeats India’s burgeoning bench strength. Not to mention the absence of Ishant and Rohit Sharma, India didn’t appear to be seriously handicapped, despite the absence of the best hitters and the most experienced helpers on the tour, Mohammed Shami,” wrote Laxman.
