Israel in deal with Pfizer to speed up vaccine deliveries for data – world news

In exchange for providing extensive data on vaccination programs, Israel has signed a contract with Pfizer Corporation to facilitate the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine so that all citizens over the age of 16 can be vaccinated by the end of March.

More than 1.7 million Israelis, or about 18{74ca91e3bee52d91843c282edd75c0800a88a3d8744a3a1c83b7ba867058fc3c} of the population, have already received the first dose of the Pfizer-Bioentech vaccine, which is more than any other country. Officials have warned that it will be slowed down by a new vaccine supply that was not expected before February.

But late Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that the next Pfizer shipment is scheduled for Sunday and that shipments will increase. He spoke 17 times with Pfizer’s CEO Albert Bourla and added that Israel would act as a “global model country” and “develop a strategy” to end the outbreak by sharing data with companies and other countries.

Israel recognizes universal health insurance, centralized systems and extensive digital records that enable rapid distribution and analysis of vaccine efforts.

The country was due to receive its first dose from Moderna Inc. on Thursday.

While the vaccination efforts are moving rapidly, officials are competing with a surge in coronavirus cases that have led to a strengthened blockade from Friday. Restrictions, in force since the end of December, have not tamed the virus. Schools and non-essential businesses are now closed.

Netanyahu, whose corruption trials will soon rise to a higher level, hopes that the vaccine program will allow Israel’s economy to resume on time, ahead of the fourth presidential election in two years on March 23rd.

Israeli bank researchers said this week that rapid vaccination efforts could increase production by 6.3 percent this year and 5.8 percent in 2022.

Until now, only Israelis over the age of 60 or with chronic conditions have been able to get the shot, and so far, about 75{74ca91e3bee52d91843c282edd75c0800a88a3d8744a3a1c83b7ba867058fc3c} of the vaccine has been in the group, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein told Bloomberg TV.
